摘要

Active bed rest is an accompanying therapy concept to prepare patients suffering from venous leg ulcers occurring with oedema, for surgical treatment. The aim is to optimize the conditions for the surgical treatment by means of bed rest, leg elevation and a physical training program. Patients, methods: 88 patients (118 legs) were prepared for surgery with the method of active bed rest. Clinical characteristics, compliance and healing, recurrence, and complication rates are described in detail. Results: Active bed rest was performed for seven days on average (ranging from I to 38 days) and compliance was high. The high healing and low recurrence and complication rates underline the importance of an accompanying therapy concept. Conclusion: The function of active bed rest is to optimize the conditions for surgical treatment of venous leg ulcers and influence the clinical outcome as well as patients' compliance positively.
