A rapid, one step microwave assisted synthesis of nanosize zinc oxide

A rapid, one step, and novel approach for the additive free synthesis of nanosize zinc oxide (ZnO) has been developed. In present methodology formation of nanocrystalline materials was carried out using microwave irradiation and by using 1,3-propanediol as a solvent and zinc acetate as a precursor. 1,3-Propanediol is a versatile solvent and played multiple roles like eliminating the use of any extraneous reagents such as base, capping agents and template. Zinc oxide formed without calcinations and was well characterised by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDAX) techniques. The results showed that ZnO was formed in nano region with triangular shape, well crystalline and essentially pure. This is one of simple and environment friendly protocol for the synthesis of ZnO.
