A Small Patch Production of -TiAl Alloys Nanoparticles via Physical Vapor-phase Method

An experimental investigation is reported on a small patch production and fine-grained nano-structured -TiAl alloys particles by physical vapor-phase method. The -TiAl alloys nanoparticles which including -TiAl and (2)-Ti3Al are synthesized by the flow-levitation technology equipped with the improved auxiliaries for double metal wires supplied system. The morphology, crystallite size, crystal structure and chemical composition of -TiAl and (2)-Ti3Al nanoparticles are characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy disperse spectroscopy. The mainly results show that the morphologies of -TiAl nanoparticles are approximately spherical and the dispersion is homogeneous. The average size of the obtained nanoparticles can be 50nm or 5 nm in diameter in the present experiment. The phase structured for -TiAl and (2)-Ti3Al alloy are adjusted by the rate of Ti and Al feeding metal wires. A good yield which is better than 2 g/h is obtained for the -TiAl alloys nanoparticles. Several bulk -TiAl alloys nano-materials are compacted in high-strength die at room temperature.
