摘要

Objectives: To assess the use and effectiveness of tigecycline in the current clinical practice.
Method: Retrospective observational study. We included those patients treated with tigecycline from January 2007 to April 2011. The main variables of study were the effectiveness and appropriateness of using tigecycline according to the recommendations established by the hospital. The secondary variables were mortality and the allergy to other antimicrobials.
Results: 33 patients were included in the study. The use of tigecycline was inadequate in 81.8% of cases. The treatment was effective in 24.2%, ineffective in 48.5% and not assessable or unknown in 27.3%. Overall mortality was 39.0%. We found statistically significant links between mortality and the off-label use.
Conclusions: There is an inappropriate use of tigecycline and a low effectiveness. The mortality rate is higher in patients that receive tigecycline outside of the approved indications.
