Determining the separation efficiency of fibrous filter media for ultrafine particles

The paper investigates the separation of ultrafine particles in low concentrations on microstructured media. A series of different filter media are first assessed in terms of their overall and fraction separation rates. For a sample filter medium, the paper presents in detail various methods for determining the fraction separation rates and compares them. The methods employed are measurements with the scanning mobility particle sizer, empirical approaches and 3D simulations. For the assessed filter medium, a direct comparison shows that the results obtained with the methods used concur well.
