摘要
Lignin from sugarcane bagasse was extracted using an alkali treatment process. The lignin extracts was coated on fabric to be used as potential additional fabric in a sanitary mask. The antimicrobial activities of lignin extracts and from fabric with coated lignin extracts were evaluated using a broth dilution method and time kill analysis assay against Gram positive Staphylococcus epidermidis (DMST 15505). The MIC and MBC values of the lignin extracts were 4096 mu g/ml and 8192 mu g/ml, respectively. Fabric with 16 cm(2) surface area coated with lignin extracts equivalent to one-fold of MBC could prevent further bacterial formation. At a concentration of two-fold and above, the coated fabric achieved a bactericidal level within 12 h of analysis. The chemical characteristics of lignin extracts were investigated using FTIR and were similar to other studies. The coated fabric did not cause a significant pressure drop and so could be used as an additional part of a sanitary mask. These results suggested the potential for lignin in filtration and antimicrobial textile applications.
