摘要

Despite considerable efforts on deposit asphaltic sand worldwide, there has been limited research on physicochemical property and comprehensive utilization of asphalt from Indonesia. In this article, an Indonesian asphaltic sand and its extracted products were characterized by a series of analysis tests. Experimental result of 30% bitumen extract shows potentially great value in recovery and utilization of asphaltic sand. Up to 70% asphaltene and resin in the bitumen brings about high density, high viscosity, and high softening point, which suggests the extracted bitumen can be used as an excellent modifier of high-grade road asphalt, building asphalt, and special-purpose asphalt. Moreover, the solid minerals remaining can also be used as a good filler or as an assistant of cement, rubber, and so on.
