A convenient route to 3H-benzo[F]-1,3,4,2-oxadiazaphosphepin-2-sulfide via Lawesson's Reagent

2,4-Bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,2,4-dithiadiphosphetane-2,4-disulfide(Lawesson's Reagent), reacts with salicylaldehyde hydrazones 2 in benzene at reflux temperature to form 3H-Benzo[f]-1,3.4,2-oxadiazaphosphepin-2-sulfide 3. The structure has been confirmed by elementary analyses, NMR, LR MS. The results of preliminary bioassay indicates that some of the title compounds possess seletive herbicidal activity.
