摘要

A method is proposed to identify the station where trends in several climatic elements are most representative for a whole region. It is based on principal component analysis of trend magnitudes. The most representative is the station at which the distance of principal component scores from zero is the smallest. The method is applied to seasonal and annual means of 10 climatic elements at 20 stations in the Czech Republic. It succeeds in finding stations outlying because of their inhomogeneity or mountain-summit position. The degree of representativeness of stations varies considerably among seasons. The trends in individual climatic elements at the most representative station are usually close to the trends in the spatial mean, but on some occasions, they considerably differ from each other.
