N '-(3-Methoxybenzylidene)-4-nitrobenzohydrazide monohydrate

There are two independent formula units in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(15)H(13)N(3)O(4)center dot H(2)O. The C=C-N-C torsion angle of the methylidenehydrazide group is 174.3 (2)degrees in one molecule and 178.6 (2)degrees in the other. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings in the two molecules are 4.17 (12) and 3.58 (12)degrees. In the crystal structure, intermolecular O-H center dot center dot center dot O, N-H center dot center dot center dot O and O-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds link the components into a two-dimensional network and additional stabilization is provided by weak intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds.
