Kaolin was selected as a test soil and phenanthrene was investigated as a typical pollutant. The characteristic of sorption and differences of migration also its effect to phenanthrene in Kaolin in uniform and non-uniform electrokinetic were studied, revealing the mechanism of using electrokinetic technology to remediation phenanthrene-contaminated soils. The results showed that in non-uniform electrokinetic process, the content of phenanthrene near the anode and the cathode 2 cm increased by 45% and 25% respectively than initial value. Non-uniform electrokinetic process could migrate phenanthrene in soil to districts with larger electric strength, and the migration of phenanthrene in soil by non-uniform electric field was carried out mainly in the way of dielectrophoresis. Compared with uniform electrokinetic, non-uniform electrokinetic process can better maintain the stability of pH in soil and the power consumption is only 0.6 times of uniform electrokinetic.
