In order to provide reference for research on asphalt pavement rut, aimed at external factors (temperature and load) on rut, and based on the measured tire-pavement contact pressure, a dynamic load simulation model was proposed, and combined with the temperature field analysis and pavement material test result, a reasonable 3D finite element simulation model considering dynamic load and temperature gradient was developed to investigate the law of rut depth on Jinghu Expressway under the actual temperature and different loads. The results show that the average temperature and pavement rut reach the maximum at 16:00. Both overload and overpressure have significant effect on the rut, which will speed up the rut development. The permanent deformation of the middle and top layers reaches 88% which are the main parts of rut development. When the temperature exceeds 23°C, the rut development increases fast, and when the temperature is higher than 28°C, the development rate of rut increases significantly. In order to avoid rutting, pavement structure combination type and material composition should be considered comprehensively, and overload must be prohibited.
