摘要

In last few years semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) played an important role in the development of all optical switches due to its very fast response. An all optical XOR and XNOR logic gate with the use of four wave mixing character of light in SOA is proposed and discussed its operation here. A completely different kind of phase encoding has been employed in the scheme for the implementation of the logic gates. The phase difference value between a pair of beams with the same frequency has been used to develop the encoded/decoded bits. This type of phase encoding is completely free from the non-linearity of the optical fiber through which it is propagating. This process can exhibit a very high speed operation (far above GHz limit) due to phase encoding technique as well as the high speed optical switching action, based on four-wave mixing character of semiconductor optical amplifier is used.
