摘要

Rotor eddy current losses induced by the harmonic currents may be significant in some kinds of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM), which may cause overheat and lead to failure. This paper presents an analytical method for calculating the eddy current losses, taking the influence of the rotor eddy current reaction and the finite axial length of the rotor into consideration. The analytical expression for the rotor eddy current losses was derived from the electromagnetic equation in rectangular coordinate system. An end coefficient in solid-rotor induction motors was used to account for the influence of the finite length of magnets. Because it was difficult to directly measure the rotor eddy current losses, an indirect method was adopted to measure the losses. Experimental results show that the proposed analytical calculation method is feasible.
