摘要
Valve replacement with cardiopulmonary bypass is currently the treatment of choice for symptomatic aortic, pulmonic, tricuspid, and mitral stenosis and regurgitation but carries a significant risk of morbidity and mortality, particularly in patients with comorbidities. Recent medical advances have made heart and valve surgeries less complicated, greatly reducing morbidity and mortality and allowing shorter recovery times. Today these surgeries are performed at younger ages than before. Current options for valve replacement and repair allow for the most appropriate procedure based on the age and comorbidities of the patient. This article discusses heart valve surgery, including nursing implications and patient education.
