摘要

The prime object of this study was to develop such a film which could float on gastric content releasing the Famotidine in nearby region for local action in stomach. These films may provide the synergism effect of floatation and expansion for better retentivity of drug in the stomach. Famotidine loaded floating films were prepared by solvent casting technique employing mercury as substrate and cellulose acetate as film forming polymer. The films were evaluated for weight uniformity, thickness, drug content uniformity, floating characteristics, and in vitro drug release. The maximum thickness of floating film was found to be 0.601 +/- 0.12. Different drug release kinetics models were also applied for selected batches. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed that surface of film is continuous and smoother. Film exhibited floating properties for more than 10 h. Radiographic study suggested that the film could retain for a longer period of time in the stomach. To access the in vivo floating characteristic albino rabbits were used for radiographic imaging. All optimized formulations were also subjected to release kinetics study.
