摘要

Stale waste is a type of soil which is different from other soil types. In order to study both the physical index and the engineering characteristics of stale waste, physico-mechanical tests were done for many groups of stale waste from one landfill in Chongqing, P. R. China that had been closed for over six years. Some basic physical indexes of the waste, such as the composition, water content, density and pore ratio, were obtained. The influence of the wastes'; composition on these indexes is discussed in detail herein. Based on the performance of the triaxial stress-strain curves, a division of the curve into four stages is put forward. The influences of cement content, density, water content and age on the deformation behavior in the four stages are given. The data indicate that the old municipal solid lacks a strong structure and that the minimal stress σ3 is the main reason for the strength increase of stale waste. The influence of organic fiber and soil particle on the strength index (C,ψ) also is discussed.
