摘要

The paper explores the similarity between concrete and the human body in regard to the influence of temperature and moisture conditions on health and performance. Once these similarities (and in some cases differences) are understood, human senses can provide useful information about the likely effects of ambient conditions on recently cast concrete. After developing the relevant principles, the paper explores a number of examples taken from the diverse and highly variable environment of New Zealand. Examples include the effects of wind, humidity, rapid drying, and hot and cold temperatures.
