We have studied phase transformations of a 20-mu m-thick rolled foil of the Pd-57 at % Cu solid solution in a heating-cooling cycle. The as-prepared foil was two-phase, with a nanocrystalline structure. The mutual orientation of the alpha- and beta-phases corresponded to the Nishiyama-Wassermann orientation relationship. Using X-ray diffraction and resistivity measurements, the beta ac dagger alpha phase transformations were shown to be reversible. The effect of the severely deformed initial structure shows up as a shift in the onset temperature and end point of the alpha -> beta phase transformation.
