摘要

Soil erosion, responsible for both soil degradation and sedimentation in conveyance systems and reservoirs, is a matter of growing concern globally, and particularly in Pakistan, where a growing number of extreme events are being observed. This study presents the first application of fallout radionuclides, specifically caesium-137 (Cs-137), in a sub-catchment of the Mangla Watershed in Pakistan and confirms that forest management significantly reduces erosion. The methods and findings of the study can help policy makers understand the extent of erosion and locate target areas within a catchment that may need immediate action to reduce adverse erosion impacts in a timely manner.
