摘要

The present study evaluates dimensions of the segmental components (pubic (a), ilial (b) and sacro-pelvic (c)) of the pelvic inlet, up to the posterior segment of the iliac crest. The lengths of these segments were compared with each other and also evaluated with the height (h) of the true pelvis, separately in both the sexes. Twenty-four indices were analysed in 195 hip-bones (male: 110, female: 85) yielding five statistically important parameters. Thirteen indices showed statistically significant 'P' values. Appreciable differences ( 10) were detected in the means for five indices between the sexes. These indices (1) b/ax100 (mean m: 88.17, f: 101.72; t=6.062; P0.001); (2) c/ax100 (mean m: 96.27, f: 108.46; t=9.604; P0.001); (3) b/cx100 (mean m: 91.88, f: 109.78; t=3.097; P0.01); (4) h/bx100 (mean m: 152.38, f: 128.05; t=2.375; P0.01) and (5) h/(b+c)x100 (mean m: 71.95, f: 54.67; t=1.855; P0.05) were further subjected to discriminant analysis. The index h/(b+c)x100 showed a better comparative discriminant coefficient and can be used as an adjunct to other methods for sexing human hip-bones.
