A Long Range DV-Hop Localization Algorithm with Placement Strategy in Wireless Sensor Networks

Nowadays, wireless sensor network (WSN) is paid more and more attention in wireless communication researches. Since location information is widely requested in various location-dependent applications, localization algorithm is becoming an important issue in WSN. As one of the range-free localization algorithms, DV-Hop algorithm can be simply implemented in real WSN. In this paper, we propose a reasonable placement strategy of anchor nodes. Based on this placement strategy, a new long range localization DV-Hop algorithm (PLR DV-Hop), which needs no additional hardware device, is offered. Simulation results confirm that PLR DV-Hop performs better than original DV-Hop algorithm: it consumes less power and can provide more accurate location estimation.
