摘要

By changing the geometric parameters with the objective to reduce the stress concentration, a new type of planar steel damper that dissipates seismic energy using the in-plane yield of the steel was proposed. The finite element calculation shows that this new type of damper possesses the large initial stiffness and the stable hysteretic capacity, which shows it has a good capacity of dissipating energy. In order to analyze the overall structural model equipped with such steel dampers using the FEM software ABAQUS, the bilinear hysteretic model and the corresponding simplified calculation method were proposed. Lastly, using the FEM softwareuake, dynamic analyses of two frame structures, one involving the steel damper and the other one without the damper, subjected to earthquake excitation were performed. The acceleration and displacement responses of structures were analyzed, which indicates that this type of planar steel damper can mitigate the damage of earthquakes effectively.
