A new euthecosomatous gastropod Gamopleura maxwelli sp n. (Gastropoda: Cavolinioidea, Cavoliniidae) from the Late Oligocene of southern New Zealand

Fragile holoplanktonic gastropods are rare components of the rich and diverse New Zealand Cenozoic molluscan fauna. This paper describes a new species in the extinct genus Gamopleura, G. maxwelli n. sp., from the Late Oligocene Otekaike Limestone, South Canterbury. Its only known congeners are found in Late Oligocene/Early Miocene rocks in southern Europe.
