The kinematic thermo-rheological model is a means of modeling the complicated flowing process of lava flow. The model can be used to determine the flow velocity, temperature variation and flowing distance of the lava flow through the calculation of relief and thermal system. In this paper, the Qixiangzhan period pantellerite lava flow in Changbaishan volcano has been modeled by using this model on the basis of relevant parameters obtained from field investigation on the lava flow. The result of modeling shows that the variation trend of flow velocity is consistent well with the variation trend of topographic slope, but with increasing viscosity during flowing process, the effect of topography becomes less important. In heat budget terms, the radiation heat and crystallization heat of microlites are the most significant heat loss and heat gain in the lava flow, respectively. The final flowing distance of the Qixiangzhan period pantellerite lava flow is calculated by the model to be 5.17 km, approximate to the actual length of 5.4 km. The consistency between the modeling results and geologic observation data indicates the feasibility and reliability of the modeling method. In addition, this study may provide a reference to the geologic study of lava flow, as well as a new train of thought and method of assessing lava flow hazard.
