An extension of the Golden-Thompson theorem

In this paper, we shall prove vertical bar tr e(A+B)vertical bar <= tr(vertical bar e(A)vertical bar vertical bar e(B)vertical bar) for normal matrices A, B. In particular, tr e(A+B) <= tr(e(A)e(B)) if A, B are Hermitian matrices, yielding the Golden-Thompson inequality.
