The title compound, [Ni(C8H3NO6)(C12H8N2)(H2O)], contains an Ni-II ion, a 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligand, a 4-carboxypyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate (Hptc(2) ) anion and a coordinated water molecule. The Ni-II atom exhibits a distorted octahedral N3O3 environment. O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding between coordinated water and carboxylate O atoms, as well as pi-pi stacking interactions [interplanar distances between phen rings = 3.293 (2) angstrom] lead to a supermolecular assembly.
