Purpose: The authors write this letter to clarify some of the points raised by Dr. Giselle Carnaby about their article titled "Clinical Experience Using the Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (MASA) for Identification of Patients at Risk for Aspiration in a Mixed-Disease Population" (Gonzalez-Fernandez, Sein, & Palmer, 2011). The intention of this letter is to ensure that the reader has a balanced perspective and the information necessary to interpret the results of the original publication.
