摘要

This paper explores an issue of maximum importance for the environment, namely the heavy metal pollution in the area of Copsa Mica town, a settlement known worldwide for the high pollution caused by the non-ferrous and chemical plants of its industrial site. Of great significance for this study are also the geographical location of the industrial site and the distribution of landforms along the wide valley corridor of the Tarnava Mare, which channels the air masses and encourages the deposition of solid and gaseous pollutants. The pollution triggered by SC Sometra SA has negatively impacted the human health (increasing morbidity) and the terrestrial and aquatic fauna, leading to the diminution or disappearance of certain living populations, as well as to the occurrence of pathological alterations. The assessment of soil quality tit the region highlights significant impairment on large areas with specific pollutants The study has revealed the existence of three polluted areas, as follows the most polluted area, the middle polluted area and the least polluted area.
