Adapting RUSLE and GIS to Model Soil Loss in Yishusi River Catchment, China

摘要

The remote sensing and GIS are applied to evaluate the soil erosion risk in the northern part of China. This study integrated the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) with RS and GIS techniques to assess soil loss and identify risk erosion areas in the Yishusi River catchment. The results show that more than half of the catchment fall within minimal erosion category and the moderate erosion area is nearly located in the Yimeng Mountain area. The potential soil loss indicates that management practice should be taken to reduce the soil loss. In all, the results of the study compare well with the other studies and local data, and provide useful information for decision makers and planners to take appropriate land management measures in the area. It thus indicates that the RUSLE GIS model is a useful tool for evaluating and mapping soil erosion quantitatively and spatially in Yishusi River catchment.
