Evaluation of the antibacterial activity of methanol, benzene and acetone extracts of Vitex negundo L. by disc diffusion method for the pathogenic bacteria viz., S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, M. luteus and R. rhodochrous was done. Among the three extracts tested methanol extract showed maximum zone of inhibition of 17.0 mm against the bacteria M. luteus at 10% concentration. The other two extracts also exerted the same range of inhibition zone gainst all the bacteria tested. Increase in the concentration of plant extract also increased the zone of inhibition. The different activity in different concentrations suggests compounds with different polarities.
