摘要
The birefringence characteristics of the ribbon double-core optical fiber are analyzed. The cross section view of the ribbon fiber is a rectangle. The fiber cores locate near the long sides of the rectangle and they are symmetrical respective to the rectangle center. The finite element method was used to analyze the effect of thermal stress distribution and the birefringence in the ribbon fiber. The results show that in ribbon double-core optical fiber, the geometrical birefringence is outstanding. This is mainly due to that the stress birefringence has little influence on mode birefringence in the special structure of the fiber. In the final analysis, adjusting the distance between the core and the cladding surface of the fiber can improve the birefringence value, and it is helpful for optimizing the structure design of the ribbon double-core optical fiber.
