A New Dimer Mott Insulator: kappa-(BEDT-TTF)(2)TaF6

摘要

The structural, transport, and magnetic properties of the new organic conductor kappa-(BEDT-TTF)(2)TaF6, where BEDT-TTF is bis(ethylenedithio) tetrathiafulvalene, have been investigated. The dihedral angle between dimers largely deviates from 90 degrees; this leads to its anisotropic triangular lattice system. The present compound shows a semiconducting behavior below 300 K, indicating a dimer-Mott insulator. A paramagnetic state is maintained at least down to 1.6 K, as verified by the electron spin resonance and magnetic torque measurements, indicating the possibility of a spin liquid phase. This demonstrates that an equilateral triangular lattice is not a requirement for the spin liquid state.
