摘要

It is found that a subwavelength layer of linear negative-index material ( NIM) significantly modifies the characteristic of bistable shift for a one-dimensional photonic crystal containing a defect layer of NIM and a Kerr-type nonlinear-defect layer of positive-index material ( PIM). Anomalous bistable shift occurs as the absolute value of magnetic permeability of the NIM layer increases. It is also found that the sequence of the thin film of NIM and the nonlinear layer has a major impact on this anomalous bistable shift. The validity of theoretical analysis is confirmed by numerical simulations for a Gaussian beam.
