High Luminescent Quantum Dots Based Poly(vinyl alcohol) Thin Films

This paper describes a high luminescent PVA based quantum dots (QDs) materials with promising photostablity and temperature resistance. First, water soluble semiconductor quantum dots and SiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized individually. Zeta potential results showed that the average zeta potential of the nanoparticles was -30 mV and the particle size was 90% distributed in the range of 120 nm to 130 nm. Frozen dry was applied to prepare the QDs@SiO2 powder and testS showed this powder can be re-dispersed in the distilled water. Nanocomposite material was prepared by incorporating the QDs@SiO2 nanoparticles with the PVA and resultant has good plasticity to make the string or thin films. Time-resolved continuous excitation experiments showed that PVA-QDs film has better photo-stability than the PVA-QDs films. Temperature sensitivity tests showed that the PVA-QDs@SiO2 films showed slower decrease when the temperature increased and keep more than 85% of the original intensity. These results show that that the resultant is a promising luminescent material for the applications in electronic and optical devices.
