The PI3K pathway promotes insulin signaling to regulate metabolism and survival and is subject to multiple inhibitory feedback loops. In this issue of Molecular Cell, Comb et al. (2012) provide evidence indicating that the PI3K pathway is negatively regulated in a new way: by NF kappa B signaling during nutrient starvation.
