A Teaching Innovation Trial in the Open Course Named as Perceiving the Electricity World

摘要

Open courses of Chongqing University for undergraduate students aim at introducing essential knowledge, skills, and potential development. It is helpful for students to broaden knowledge scope and keep lifelong learning or research in cross-discipline fields. Perceiving the electricity world, which is an open course started in March 2013, was taken by over 150 sophomore and 150 junior students. This paper introduces the teaching target and contents of this course and also assessment method. Moreover, it takes a lecture implementation as an example to illustrate course layout and requirements for students. The teaching methods consist of teacher's lecture, lab demonstration, and students' presentation and final written report. It urges lecturers to share their own research interests and teaching experiences. It also encourages students to be familiar with their own major gradually and be interested in inter-discipline learning. Then, they can make excellent reading reports and presentations by team work. According to the survey from students, this type of teaching design aroused their enthusiasm to learn and practice.
