A test method of dent resistance for auto-body panel parts was introduced by referring to the test methods of panels. An automatic tester system for panel parts dent resistance test was developed. The tester indenter can be adjustable with arbitrary posture in space by integrating "5-axes motion +1-axis loading", so the tester is able to load in the normal direction of test points on panel part. A control hardware system with "PC + motion controller" structure was constructed based on PMAC, programmable multi-axis motion controller. The corresponding control software was developed. A 6-axes tester was controlled accurately. The normal vector of a test point on parts was obtained with one approximation method. The motion data of tester indenter adjustment from initial position to the normal direction of test point was calculated. The loading axis was adjusted automatically in the normal direction of test points. Calibration and application indicated that the testing system worked stably and reliably.
