摘要

Induced subsurface residual compression stresses can considerably increase the service life of metal components. In the case of such stresses on the outer surfaces generated by plastic deformation an equilibrium system with residual tensile stresses inside exists. Under cyclic loading the material degradation process causes with increased strains against the odds of a continued existence of residual stresses. In accordance with material degradation questions with regard to the stability of imposed residual stresses have to be answered. The dislocation motion issues are discussed in view of the stability induced plastic deformations, moreover, results of fatigue tests on specimen with post-treated welds are presented.
