Composites of glass fiber bisphenol-C-formaldehyde and epoxy resin of bisphenol-C and its methyl derivative [Glass-EBCF (I) and Glass-EMBCF (II)] were prepared by hand-lay-up technique under 30.4 MPa pressure at 150 degrees C for 2 h. I and II possess 197 and 219 MPa tensile strength, 4.7 and 4.0 kV/mm electric strength, 1.4 x 10(14) and 2.4 x 10(14) ohmcm volume resistivity, and 3.3 and 3.1 dielectric constant, respectively. Composites showed different water sorption in water, 10% aqueous HCl, NaOH and NaCl solutions. Observed water uptake order for I and II are H2O>NaOH>HCI>NaCl and NaOH>H2O>HCl. II showed weight loss tendency in NaCl solution. Water sorption for II is substantially higher than I. Good tensile strength, excellent volume resistivity and dielectric constant of the composites signify their importance in construction, marine, automotive, electrical and electronic components.
