摘要

Freshly harvested seed lots of 40 conventional (non-hybrid) indica and japonica rice varieties with germination ranging from 85 to 98.5%, were used to evaluate the possibility that oxygen-sensing technology is suitable to assess rice seed vigour. The results showed that among all tests, germination index and field emergence rate provided the most sensitive indices for ranking seed quality. Among the oxygen metabolism indices, only relative germination rate (the theoretical germination rate inferred from oxygen consumption curves) of conventional indica rice or oxygen metabolism rate (the maximum amount of oxygen consumed over time) of conventional japonica rice were significantly correlated with the control indices including three laboratory indices (germination rate, germination potential, germination index) and two field indices (field emergence rate, plant height). Therefore, for seed lots with greater than 85% germination, relative germination rate and oxygen metabolism rate were the optimal indices to evaluate seed vigour of conventional indica rice and conventional japonica rice, respectively. However, oxygen-sensing technology is not able to predict reliably the field emergence of conventional rice seeds because of relatively low correlation coefficient
