The cable supported barrel vault structure (CSBV) is analyzed in this paper. Considering the mechanical feature of CSBV and based on the static equilibrium rule, a prestress design method was put forward by controlling the structural horizontal displacement, the ideal prestress can be found by iteration calculation, which can make the horizontal displacement value of the support approach zero. A CSBV scaled model with a scale of 1:15 was designed and manufactured, and the rationality of the prestress design method was verified by numerical calculation and test research. Moreover, the basic principle of the static equilibrium method was introduced to the cable force measurement, according to the balance relationship of the planar concurrent forces, the formula which can work out the cable force was deduced. In this method, only by measuring the internal forces of the struts and one end of the cable, as well as some certain angles between the cable and struts can the internal forces of each pieces of the cable be figured out. The feasibility of this method was proved through the model experiment.
