摘要

We report the FDG-PET/CT findings in a patient with an appendiceal schwannoma. The incidence of appendiceal neoplasm in patients in whom appendectomy was performed is low and ranges from 0.6% to 0.8%. Schwannoma is extremely rare among them. We describe a 71-year-old man without symptoms who had continued yearly health screening including FDG-PET/CT for 3 years. The initial FDG-PET/CT demonstrated an intense uptake superimposed to the appendix. We recommended a surgical intervention with a malignant nature in mind. However, he refused surgery with the risk of deterioration of his heart disease. Under these circumstances, a yearly check-up was performed. Two years later, an increased FDG accumulation was observed and he agreed to have a surgical resection. Histopathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of appendiceal schwannoma.
