摘要

The effects of silicon on microstructures, fluidity, mechanical proper-ties and fracture behaviors of AM50 magnesium alloy under die cast conditions were studied by making die cast samples with silicon contents of 0.5wt%, 0.93wt% and 1.91wt%. Mg2Si phases with two kinds of morphologies in Si containing alloy, i.e. square-like and 'Chinese script was observed'. Both fluidity and hardness of the alloy can be improved by silicon. However, silicon is detrimental to the mechanical properties at room temperature when its content is more than 0.93wt%. The fracture of the alloys was observed to be in brittle cleavage or quasi-cleavage failure mode. Silicon is detrimental to the impact toughness of AM50 alloy.
