摘要

The number of people who use diabetes technologies is steadily increasing. It can be assumed that more older patients will use diabetes devices in the future. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to gain knowledge about the requirements with regard to usability of these devices for the frail elderly. This article aims to identify opportunities and risks of the use of diabetes technologies for older patients. It further offers tailored design recommendations to improve the usability of diabetes devices for the frail elderly. Diabetes technologies can be useful tools to enhance diabetes self-management and increase quality of life and autonomy in older patients. However, the devices need to be tailored for the older population and, for example, be adapted to accommodate for limited eyesight, dexterity, and other related issues common in aging.
