(WC-M) coating inert anode was prepared on the substrates of stainless steel by plasma thermal coating processing. The (WC-M) coating was composed of Ni-Cr alloy and WC powder. The WC-M with other contrasted materials were soaked in 1000 degrees C electrolyte, and were oxidated in air at 1000 degrees C for 72 h. The results show the anticorrosion and anti-oxidation of the WC-M are only weaker than that of platinum. The inert anode was tested with tradition aluminum electrolysis at 960 degrees C for 30 h. The results proved that WC-M/316L coating anode has excellent performances with respect to electronic conductivity, anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion at high temperature, thermal shock resistance as well as mechanical processing. The impurity contents of the deposited aluminum are in the range of the National Specification A199.00(GB/T 1196-2002). The tested and extrapolated corrosion rate of WC-M/316L coating anode is about 45 mm/a.
