摘要

A maps of the corrosion potential distribution at the interface between a polymer film and a metallic substrate would provide insight on the corrosion processes of polymer-coated metals. Conventional electrochemical techniques are not suitable for measuring the corrosion potential at the polymer/metal interface because of the high electrical resistivity of polymer films. A new electrochemical technique based on an array electrode has been developed to measure in situ the corrosion potential and map its distribution at the polymer/metal interface. The technique consists of a polymer-coated 64-electrode array probe connected to a computer-aided mapping system. A corrosion cell Is attached to the surface of the polymer-coated probe. By removing the polymer film after each use, the multiple-electrode array probe can be used repeatedly. The corrosion potential mapping system includes an analog switch with multi-channel inputs, an ADC, and a computer. A solution containing 0.5 mol/L NaCl is used as the test medium. Examples of polymer coatings that have different protective properties are presented to demonstrate the capability of the technique. The results indicate that not only the anodic and cathodic areas of polymer-coated metals can be located but also their development with exposure time can be followed.
