The poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as dispersant was used in CaCO3 aqueous suspensions, were the PAA was adsorbed onto the surface of CaCO3 particles. The adsorption reached equilibrium when adsorption time was 150 min. The adsorption capacity increased with increasing PAA content, and attained equilibration when PAA content was 0.9 % based on CaCO3 weight. The CaCO3 particles adsorbing PAA revealed negative zeta potential. Compared with that of CaCO3 particles, the absolute value of zeta potential CaCO3 particles adsorbed PAA was markedly enhanced. The conductivity of CaCO3 suspensions with 0.25 wt% PAA was lower than that of CaCO3 suspensions. The conductivity of CaCO3/PAA suspensions was enhanced with increasing PAA content in range of 0.25 similar to 1.5 wt%. The dispersion degree of CaCO3/PAA suspensions was higher than that of CaCO3 suspensions because of increase of electrostatic repulsive interaction between CaCO3 particles adsorbing PAA, and resulted in decrease of its apparent viscosity.
