A cost-effective method for preparing mechanically stable anti-corrosive superhydrophobic coating based on electrochemically exfoliated graphene

Electrochemical exfoliation of graphite has been presented to be an effective method to prepare graphene, but its application in superhydrophobic coating is still rare. Here, we reported a simple and facile method to prepare superhydrophobic surfaces via painting the mixture of electrochemically exfoliated graphene and polydimethylsiloxane. The as-prepared superhydrophobic surface exhibited excellent self-cleaning property. Moreover, the superhydrophobic surface showed much smaller corrosion current density, reduced 8868-fold from the bare Al 6061 substrate. Furthermore, this superhydrophobic surface possessed good mechanical stability due to the fact that the surface could maintain superhydrophobicity after water-impact and sand-impact tests. This method may open a new avenue in the design and fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces with self-cleaning and anticorrosive property.
