Deterministic design of LCL filter for voltage source converter

In order to improve the performance and designation efficiency of LCL filters, we put forward a novel deterministic designation method of LCL filter based on the harmonic analysis model of voltage source converter (VSC) with dynamic phasor sequence components (DPSCs). Converter side inductor, capacitor, and grid side inductor are designed, respectively. The restraints of power and the tracking of AC current are considered when the converter side inductor is designed. The minimum value are selected as the designation value. The capacitor in the filter is designed with the constraint of the reactive power. With the calculation results of the harmonic analysis model based on DPSCs, the grid side inductor can be calculated determinately with the constraint of the harmonic current limit presented in IEEE 1547. Finally, the parameters of LCL filters can be verified to be effective by the stability analysis, simulations, and experiments. The experimental results show that the high-order harmonic currents reduce to the 0.02 A and the harmonic distortion ratio is about 0.23%. The method can avoid repetitive trial and complex optimization during the designation of LCL filters which simplify the designation of LCL filters a lot. At the same time, the small value of inductors can be also assured which decrease the volume and cost of the converter.
